Tiny Terrible Tune's

As I sat at my friends house listening to her daughter play HORRIBLE children's music OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER again. I decided 2 things. One...it's not her fault - there is no selection of good music for kids out there and two...I may have to attempt to write my own album of kids songs. Now don't get me wrong - I know I listened to some crap in the past...Skinamarinkydinkydink..isn't exactly life altering...but songs about eating a horrible lunch or let's take a dip in the wading pool (along with a screeching voice) needs to be smashed into tiny little pieces. So I guess stay tuned. Now I'm not trying to steal Rodney Brown's thunder here....maybe he'll even collaborate with me. Who knows. Perhaps if we find someone else willing to sacrifice their coolness and sing about bubbles and sparkles and doggy tails...perhaps we can come up with something that won't mess up future generations the way that Barney and those doped looking blobs (Teletubbies) not surprising Simon Cowell the crowned king of tv mean subjected many children to that. He obviously wants the world to grow up without brain cells....perhaps that will make him look more . Since were on this whole topic...anyone remember how cool it was to be a kid in the late 70s - early 80's? Shows like Dr.Snuggles, Today's Special, Barbapapa, Jeremy, Readalong, Read All About it and more!!Math Patrol Take a trip down memory lane...CLICK HERE.

The DJ Who Would Live In A Shoe....like a Ferragamo or a Manolo Blahnik

I have never hated unpacking before. I like unpacking presents or my suitcases when I’m on vacation, but when it comes to moving into a new place it’s a whole other thing. Nothing has a place of its own yet. Random items that you use on a daily basis get lost in a second. I don’t even know how many times I’ve said, "Where are the scissors? Do you have them? Where did I put them? They were right here a minute ago? Are you sure you don’t have them? ARGH!" Yes the good outweighs the bad. Like furniture shopping! You know you’re entering a different phase of life when the purchasing of a new couch takes precedence over spending that amount on a pair of shoes. So instead of getting that pair of spicy sandals from Christian Lacroix priced at $649 I decided to get a couch and a tv stand. Not as exciting but necessary. If you love shoes as much as I do check out www.shoes.com .

Remember, no matter how much you may struggle to get into that pair of jeans - you can always be sure you’ll fit into your favorite pair of shoes!!!

MOTHER * * * * * *

Get your mind out of the gutter. It stands for MOTHER NATURE. When I was a kid I imagined Mama Nature as a friendly little old lady who lived in the woods and baked little loaves of bread for the gnomes and fairies (I never said I was a normal child). Now I think of her as a little too old to get things right. Perhaps it’s time to retire. Last Friday’s surprise snowstorm was a bit of a shock to the system. Squirrels were running around confused in my backyard. I saw them hold an emergency meeting and the head squirrel was TICKED.... as were all of us who had to go anywhere that day or had to pull out our parkas and boots AGAIN. I think that some children’s poems and songs should be changed to go along with the present times. Like instead of the poem April showers bring May flowers….they should recite…April snowstorms bring nada, el zippo, nothing but misery. Too harsh? Perhaps…maybe we should get a reeeallly big tarp made and just cover the city. Then we’ll all be protected from the elements. I think the folks at the Sports Dome could lend their expertise. It would be great. We could all wear our summer wear all year round if we wanted. It’s starting to sound a bit too much like one of my favorite movies Logan’s Run. Except we should skip the whole Life Clock thing. If you don’t know what I’m talking about make it your mission to see it. You may then understand the references made to the movie during Family Guy’s hilarious episode "Brian in Love". Definitely both must sees. Anyway back to the Thunder Bay weather scam…I mean….situation. If someone knows Father Time’s number give him a call. Perhaps he could check Mother Nature’s watch. Maybe she just needs new batteries and this is all one big misunderstanding – and spring really was supposed to be here and it wasn’t her fault after-all. Ya right.

Har Dee Har

It was another busy weekend. Friday was Thunder Bay Comic Idol at the Da Vinci. The whole Rock 94 crew was there to judge the brave first time stand-up comics...including yours truly. I wrote a few jokes for the fun of it around 5pm....not expecting to actually get up on stage and do my routine. Before I knew it I had a mic in my hand and actually got some laughs. The funny thing was - the last joke I did was a true story that got the biggest laughs- it was about lime juice and pee...if you were there you know what I'm talking about. The next day was the Home n' Garden Show. We had a bunch of free give-aways at our booth as did a lot of other people. I picked up a tree, some planting bulbs and a water saver kit. Free stuff is good. They did an experiement once where they put a table in the middle of a mall with a sign on it that said FREE. They would put a broken item or a really stupid book and people would actually take it ....just for the fact that it was free. I guess that says a lot about our society...either we're natural scavangers or we just like think we got a deal....

Spring Has Sprung...

....but the grass hasn't riz....yet. With spring comes many wonderful things like warmer weather, blooming flowers, rain showers......and doggie do do. Ya...I think I stepped in a few piles over the last few days as I strolled around Boulevard Lake. Although now that the ice has somewhat melted I don't have to stroll up onto the snowbanks to avoid an unplanned slapstick comedy routine for passers-by. I find that with the change of the seasons so do my favorite tunes in my ipod. I'm feeling the old skool vibe lately.

Here's my current fave track list...

Propagandhi - Today's empire, tommorow's ashes

Miles Davis – It Never Entered My Mind

Rancid – Black Lung

Black Flag – Rise Above

NOFX - Showerdays

The Pixies - Where is my mind?

Bad Religion - Social Suicide

Bob Marley - Satisfy My Soul

Shake Yer Bon Bon

Bon Jovi. When you think of this rock group you may conjure up a number things...like great manes of hair, tight jeans, killer guitar solos, a crazy energetic crowd that knows all the words to their songs and cell phones waving back and forth (this generations tribute flame for those power ballads). This was everything that I along with 18,000 other fans experienced this past week at the Excel in Minne. It was an amazing stage performance. Technically it was one of the coolest sets I've ever seen. A crazy light up section of the 360 degree stage ended up becoming a dance floor then moving up into a wall which doubled as a massive video screen. Plus there was this crazy venitan blind videoscreen that would constantly change shape and go from four smaller rectangles to one giant one or four massive long rectangles from ceiling to floor..can you say big $$. I'm sure the boys could afford it....from the look of the tshirt merch line up alone they probably paid for the whole thing that night. har har. The crowd was into every second of every song! That's when a concert becomes like a religious experience. You have a whole arena full of people responding to whatever the man on the podium is asking you to do in unison....definately we all listened and took part. Maybe no lives were changed, but we did end up feelin' the Bon Bon spirit! Daughtry put on a pretty good performance too. Chris did a pretty cool thing when he asked everyone to take a pic at the same time. He called it his "rock star moment of the night". Now in true music loving fashion - I'm planning my next concert trip. If you have any pics from any cool concerts you've been to send them to me and we'll post them for everyone to see.

To be...or not to be... a penguin?

This weekend was busy but good times. The last Ski with Dee at Loch Lomond was on Friday. We had a lot of fun as usual. My friend's daughter had her first chair lift ride. I got her to come with me since I thought was well experienced. Not so much. We got smacked in the backsides. That didn't seem to discourage her though - which is a good thing. I would hate for her first memory of going to a ski hill to be a terrifying experience. I've been spending a lot of time outdoors since the weather has been nice lately. If I was a cat I would definatley be an outdoor cat. If I was a penguin though I'd be the only indoor penguin since I am not a fan of the cold. I'd even wear a jacket, hat and mitts if I had to go outside. All of the other penguins would point and laugh at me. Since the cold would make me so sensitive I'd probably start to cry. They wouldn't care. They'd just make tiny little penguin snowballs and throw them at me. Okay...on second thought...I do not want to be a penguin.

Scrabulous is Fabulous

Must....get....rid....of....Facebook...!!! I have had to find daytime hobbies to get me away from the computer. This is a good thing. At night there are bands to see, movies to watch, snowboarding, and yoga postures to master. In the daytime - well there's only so much shopping one should do (I didn't say could...I could shop all day.) This week went by quickly - that's what keeping busy will do. When I do have down time I like to listen to some music I've never heard before...if you get a chance check out some of these bands born on the East Coast. You may be surprised that not all music off the Atlantic has fiddles or footstomping har har...

Hello Rockaholics! How do you like the new Rock 94 website? I think it's stylin' - thanks to our Webmistress Mandy and her man-servent aka 'Graphics Monkey' Trevor , she has him well trained. Ooo ooo ah ah!! Here you'll read about everything from my day-to-day shananagans (great word - my thanks to the movie Juno for bringing it back...well in my life vocabulary anyway), my personal thoughts (which I should write a disclaimer for), and I'll share any info or cool stuff I may come across that I think may interest you. You may notice I have an Orwellian way of creating my own lexicon as George Orwell did (called Newspeak) in his dark and fascinating dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty Four . I'll name my own language 'Deespeak''- so if you come across a bunch of nonsensical words - they're just my own. Basically I write how I talk...all over the place (no I don't have A.D.D despite what Mark says), I'm just mentally random. I tend to get bored easily...maybe it's an only child thing?

Feel free to share your thoughts, comments or whatever random thing on your mind. Oh ya...and don't bother wasting precious time correcting my spelling or grammar. It's not worth it, especially since I hardly have time to write a blog let alone correct it. I just hope none of my former English teachers end up reading these. Dee dee@rock94.com
