Sleeping Giant Loppet

The 2012 Sleeping Giant Loppet takes place on Saturday March 3rd, 2012. There is an event for everyone: enter the family friendly 8km Mini-Loppet, try the speedy 20km around Lake Marie Louise, tour the mid-distance 35km or challenge yourself in the scenic 50km freestyle or classic event. This year marks the 35th running of the Loppet and you’re invited to our GIANT friends and family ski reunion. We are returning to our roots in 1978 with a Retro Fashion show at kit pickup and an award for the best Retro ski outfit for a Loppet participant. So head to your attic and dig out those wool sweaters, knickers and leather boots!
Over the 35 years, just over 20,000 skiers have participated in the Thunder Bay Ski Tour, Sibley Ski Tour or the Sleeping Giant Loppet as it’s now known. If you’re one of them, why not join us for the 2012 Loppet and see how things have changed.
Don’t forget about the 2nd annual RBC sprints. They will be held under the lights at Kamview Nordic Centre on Thursday March 1st, 2012. After kit-pickup and a pasta special at the Best Western Nor’Wester, head to Kamview to cheer on your favourite athletes in this highspeed, head to head “dash for cash”.
